About Us

The Memorial Masonry Training Group was set up in 2013 by Bob Strickland and Douglas Swan as it had become evident that there was a shortage of training available specifically designed for Memorial Masons.

Using Bob’s consultancy Tomasson Consultants and the SQA Test Centre (The Bob Strickland Partnership) Douglas and Bob agreed to arrange and provide training and qualifications for those already involved in memorial masonry. In 2024 the Bob Strickland Partnership ceased to offer SQA awards.

Tomasson Consultants continue to provide and allocate the training which is carried out by qualified memorial masons appointed by the consultancy.

Douglas Swan & Sons carry out most of the training onsite, at your premises or at their premises, which boasts a fully equipped workshop with adjacent training classroom.

Douglas Swan & Sons were established in 1864 and now have 6th generation members of the family working in the business, always willing to share their knowledge and skills with others in the memorial industry and as a result Douglas Swan & Sons (Training) evolved

The Bob Strickland Partnership was an SQA registered test centre which provided the main award which is sought by Memorial Masons wishing to erect or fix memorials in local Authority Cemeteries. In recent years Bob’s health prevented him from being involved and the SQA decided that we would have to become our own stand alone SQA Test Centre now named Douglas Swan & Sons (Training).

We shall forever be indebted to Bob for all of his guidance and support over a twelve year period., indeed Bob became very well known and very popular in the Memorial Masonry Sector.
