MEMORIAL FOUNDATIONS & FIXINGS

A comprehensive course which demonstrates the types of memorial foundation available today.

The course covers how to excavate and pour a pre-poured concrete foundation, how to set a pre -cast foundation and discusses the various types of fixings and fixing methods currently available.

The course includes and demonstrates the relationship between the British Standard BS 8415 industry standards and approved ground anchors and fixing systems.

ERECTING/FIXING MEMORIALS to BS8415 STANDARDS Including S/NVQ Qualification

A one day course which demonstrates and prepares candidates for the QCF194 (SQA Unit Code HA1J 04) Fix and secure memorial masonry award assessment.

The morning session includes a comprehensive study of Industry Standards and their relationship to BS 8415. In the afternoon there is a practical demonstration of memorial fixing.

The fixing assessment can take place at the end of the course or at a future date.

All course documents and guidance notes are included in the course fees.

This course is available for individual candidates or as part of a group.

DISMANTLING AND RE-ERECTING of MEMORIALS TO BS8415 STANDARD

This is a comprehensive two day course which covers, personal safety, equipment safety, manual handling, the construction of memorials, dismantling and re-fixing of memorials. The course features both theory and practical guidance.

The course also covers practical re-pair techniques including re Dowling and re-fixing a standard lawn memorial, a cross and (if available) a full grave memorial.

SAFETY INSPECTION & ASSESSMENT OF MEMORIALS

A 1 day course which has been developed around the Ministry of Justice Guidelines "Managing the Safety of Burial Ground Memorials".

The Course covers a number of factors including: The Law, Planning, Personal Safety, Identification of Memorials, Risk Assessment, Recording of Defects, Dealing with failures and Making Safe.

THE GEOLOGY OF BURIAL GROUND MEMORIALS

The Geology of Burial Ground memorials

This is a half day lecture on the different types of stone which have been used and are being used in the construction of memorials.

The lecture covers the geology of these materials and gives an insight into the properties of  various types of stone including those imported from other countries.

The problems which occur with burial ground memorials is also highlighted in the lecture, which explains the faults and flaws which can occur in natural materials as well as highlighting problems caused by  poor fixing methods, weed killer, erosion, improper use of chemicals and the weather.

The lecture is aimed at those who work in the memorial masonry industry and  those who are tasked with memorial safety inspection and assessment.
